An entrepreneur with extensive experience in the agriculture industry, Pam Marrone, Ph.D., founded Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI) in 2006 to bring natural pest management products to the mainstream markets. Prior to MBI, Marrone was founding president of AgraQuest, where she and her team discovered and commercialized several successful natural pest management products, including Serenade®, Serenade® Garden, Sonata®, Rhapsody®,  and Ballad®. AgraQuest was sold to Bayer CropScience in 2012. Marrone was also founding president and business unit head for Entotech Inc., a successful biopesticide subsidiary of Novo Nordisk, which was sold to Abbott in 1995. She also led Monsanto’s insect biology group, which was involved in pioneering projects in insect-resistant crops and microbial natural products.

Marrone is founding chairwoman and currently a board member of the Biopesticide Industry Alliance (BPIA), a prominent trade association. She also serves on the University of California President’s Board of Science and Innovation, the UC Davis College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Dean’s Advisory Board, is the Treasurer of the Organic Farming Research Foundation and serves on the board of the Association of Applied IPM Ecologists Foundation. She serves on the California Department of Pesticide Regulation’s Pest Management Advisory Committee and Methyl Bromide Alternatives Task Force. Previously, she served on the boards of Sutter Health’s Sacramento-Sierra Region and Sutter Davis Hospital Foundation. She is cofounder and was board member of UC Davis CONNECT and DATA (Davis Area Technology Association).

Marrone has been recognized with several prestigious industry awards, including NRDC’s Growing Green Award for Business Leader, the Presidential Green Chemistry Award for small business, Red Herring magazine’s Top 100 Private Companies Award, the World Technology Award, Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award and the UC Davis College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Alumni Award of Distinction. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
